This year, employees and many corporations have faced tremendous changes in the ways that we interact with co-workers, get together, celebrate milestones and how we do work daily. Although this year has come with many trials and tribulations, it’s more important than ever before that we’re spreading holiday cheer, even if it’s virtually.

We’ve explored some of the best virtual events ideas that you can use to celebrate the holidays with your team. Check out our list below.

  1. Holiday Happy Hour

There’s nothing better than a nice drink after a long work week. Why not join your co-workers and celebrate with a virtual happy hour? Throughout the work week, everyone is so busy that it is hard to spend time catching up with your co-workers. Use this holiday happy hour to connect with your team. Leave the work talk for your Monday morning meeting, grab a drink and enjoy this virtual cocktail hour. To spice up this holiday happy hour, get everyone to make and debut their signature drink – it’s a great conversation starter and allows you to share some great cocktail recipes!

2. Trivia Night

There’s nothing more exciting than some friendly competition with your co-workers on some classic trivia. You can make this a team event and break individuals up into teams, or everyone participates together. There are so many free online trivia resources available (check some of them out here) that can be done virtually. To make the stakes even higher, you can offer virtual prizes, such as an e-gift card. Trivia can be done on any topic that your team is interested in, or you can specify it to your business and do a custom Kahoots that’s tailored to your company. Trivia is a great way to forget about all the daily work stress and just have some fun.

3. Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest

Who said you can’t take a classic holiday party tradition and make it virtual? Show up to your virtual team meeting with the ugliest sweater you can find and you and your team can choose the winner! Who knows, maybe these ugly sweaters also come with a fun story to share with your co-workers.

4. Virtual Cookie Decorating

This is definitely a longer virtual holiday party idea, but a great way to spread some joy, laughter and deliciousness this holiday season. Find the greatest cookie recipe and send it to your team, and on the night of cookie decorating you can all join together to make some beautiful (or maybe not so beautiful) delicious creations. This is a great spin on a holiday classic and you can even make gingerbread houses virtually.

5. Virtual Incohearent

Have you ever heard of the card game Incohearent? It was developed by the creators of WhatDoYouMeme and it is absolutely hilarious. Essentially, the essence of the game is that each card has a combination of words on the front that, when recited out loud, sound like the phrase written on the back. Your goal is to identify what the actual phrase is within a specified time. To make this available on zoom, put the phrases on a PowerPoint and share them on your screen with your team. This is an activity that will definitely bring laughter to your team. Asides from using the game, you can make up your own phrases to play with. To bring some more competition, you can offer the winner a prize!

This year is going to be quite different from the standard holiday party most of us have been used to, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make the best out of it and still have an amazing time to connect with co-workers and spread joy this holiday season. What will you and your team be doing to celebrate this holiday season?
