What were you doing before The Behar Group?

I have spent seven years working in a number of interesting roles in the sport and event industry, managing events, projects and operations. I had the opportunity to work on the organizing committee of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games as a Venue and Transportation Manager. I also had the chance to work on the planning and operations team for the NBA All-Star Weekend 2016 in Toronto. Over the last year, while taking courses to obtain my real estate license, I have been working with Tanurb Developments. Tanurb is a landlord with shopping centres in Barrie and Stratford. I had a great experience building relationships with tenants and working with the property managers on budgets, site operations, rents and promotions.

How were you introduced to The Behar Group / what draws you to the company?

After learning a bit about my personality and my goals during a meeting with a developer my contact told me I should really meet Greg Evans at The Behar Group. I took him up on the offer to connect us and after having the chance to talk with Greg I knew The Behar Group was the type of environment I wanted to work in. I really like the fact that as a boutique brokerage The Behar Group has built up their brand as a team of innovative and trustworthy professionals and that working under this name will mean something in the industry. I also like the fact that The Behar Group prides itself as being more than just a brokerage and that I may have the chance to be involved with a variety of different commercial real estate services.

What do you love most about what you do?

I am excited about the opportunity to build and develop strong relationships as I truly enjoy meeting new people and continually proving myself as a hardworking and dependable representative. I also like the variety that this job offers in terms of work environment – some days you are on the road, meeting clients, on site visits or in the office. You can never get bored!

How did you become interested in real estate?

My family is involved in real estate and development so I have always had a natural interest in this industry and had the privilege of being exposed to it from an early age. Also, during my career in event operations I have had the chance to work at interesting venues throughout Ontario. This is where I gained an appreciation for the complexity of different buildings and the uniqueness of every space, which led to a desire to work in real estate as a commercial salesperson.

Let’s get to know more about Matt!

Favourite place you’ve ever travelled to? And why?

I really enjoyed travelling to the Bahamas and to Spain because I was able to experience the friendliness of these cultures and their people, not to mention the amazing beaches.

What’s one thing you can’t live without?

I would feel empty without being able to follow my beloved Toronto sports teams. Despite their overall lack of success, I am a dedicated Raptors, Jays and Leafs fan.

What’s your favourite place in Toronto? (Can be a landmark, bar etc…)

My favourite place in Toronto is Riverdale Park. It is an amazing green space in the downtown core but because it is down in the valley, when you are in the park you feel isolated and removed from the rest of the city.

Do you have a motto that you live by? What is it?

“Obstacles are what you see when you take your eye off the goal.”

What’s one fun fact about you that we don’t know about yet?

I love staying active and competing in pretty much any sport, both on teams and as an individual.  I play golf, tennis, baseball and volleyball in the summer. I play Ultimate Frisbee year-round.
